Question Why are USB devices still powered on after I turn off the PC ?

Hello, I am using a Gigabyte Z390 Xtreme (rev. 1.0). I noticed that after I turned off the PC, some USB devices directly connected to the USB ports on the motherboard remained powered on. How come? Is this normal? Is there any way to turn them off without unplugging the cables?

normal its usually a bios setting.

access your computer's BIOS settings and find the option related to "USB power after shutdown" or "ERp Ready" and set it to "disabled" or "S5 mode",

You might find that some of your USB ports do not provide +5V power when the computer is in standby. Try moving the device to another port if possible.

Apart from the most sensible option of checking BIOS options to see if you can disable this feature, an alternative is to switch off the mains supply to the PC. That's easy if you have switched mains outlets (which are common where I live) but more difficult if you have unswitched sockets.

I tend power down my collection of PCs, rather than leaving a whole bunch of them soaking up small amounts of Vampire power. What with routers, hardware firewalls, network switches, monitors, printers, servers, it all adds up with electricity costing the equivalent of US $0.33 per kWhr.
