Why were some laptops made to be very loud (enough to cause hearing damage in 2 hours)?

At -58 dB volume, the internal speakers measured 40 dB (held the meter where someone would be sitting). When I turned the volume all the way up, the volume measured 98 dB. Why are some laptops have speakers that go over 95 dB?

I don't think I have ever run across a laptop that was loud enough for hearing damage at anything close to normal distance from it that would not be distorting the speakers to the point of damaging them. What laptop do you have that was that loud?
