Why wont 1gb rx 16 pc2 5300 work with dell 280

Hello,
I have a dell old DELL OptiPlex GX280 400mHZ PC with two 256MB 1rx16 PC2-3200U-333-10-C1

I have four 1GB 1Rx8 PC2-5300P-555-12-F0 but the PC won't boot when I put them in.

Why?

The Dell OptiPlex GX280 can use a maximum of 1GB per slot, with a max speed of PC2-5300, so it should work (assuming the RAM is good). Try updating to the latest BIOS from Dell, as i've seen this issue crop up in 280's / 620's before. You might try the sticks individually in case one of them is bad.
