Why won't minecraft work on my xp computer anymore

I used let my cousin play minecraft on one of my old towers when he comes over and I use my main tower but now minecraft won't load and it used to play fign

Game update maybe? Sometimes updates make changes to the game engine, making it run more smoothly or improving graphics on new hardware but dropping support for very old hardware.

Just a guess.

im not 100% sure but im not sure if 1.9 supports windows xp
