Why wont my BIOS open?

Since day one i have not been able to open my BIOs and noone can tell me why.
AMD FX 8350
MSI Radeon R9 290x
GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3P AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

yes i press the key and it will just sit at a black screen forever

Are you using a USB keyboard?

If yes, you may need to use a PS/2 keyboard for BIOS access like I have to. Because of that I always use a PS/2 keyboard now so I don't have to switch. I have a new PS/2 one as a spare as they are getting rarer now.

Don't bother trying a USB-PS/2 adapter, they're cr*p. You need a native PS/2 keyboard. Adapter may work but most don't. Adapter didn't work for me, I tried four from different suppliers. Native PS/2 keyboard cost me less than those four useless adapters!
