Why wont my ethernet cable connect my xbox

hey,
when i connect my ethernet cable from my xbox to the wireless router it will not show a connection on the network setup screen, ive tried multiple cords, nothing works. any suggestions?

I would try connecting directly to the modem to see if it's the router.
What kind of router do you have?
