Why's it half the speed?

Hi, I've been doing a few 3DMark tests and comparing them online and everyone elses CPU Marks are about twice as much even though they have roughly the same CPU. This would be an Athlon 2000xp compared with the same chip! I don't understand. I get 191 CPU Marks. I even have more memory than some of them (running at a faster speed). Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

ok, but I didn't think they were relevant.

Athlon 2000xp
L7VTA KT400-8235 m/b
768MB PC2700
Geforce 3 Ti200 128MB
Win XP

Should I actually trust what these benchmarks say?

I'm going to assume your talking about 3dmark 2003. Here's the answer. look at your graphics card. 3dmark test mostly the graphics card. Your card is much older, and not "quite up to par" shall I say. your processor speed doesn't matter all that much. I have a celeron 1.1 oc'd to 1.4 with a 9600Pro and I get 2312. Get a newer vid card (9600Pro would do you fine) and you'll see those marks sky rocket

That is exactly where I was heading. Yep, what sargeduck said.

Ah, but 3D Mark also tests the CPU speed by running things in software mode. It gives a separate figure for CPU speed (CPU Marks). That was what I was querying.
