I'm running Windows 8 64 bit on my HP Elitebook8440p. I had never had any problems with my wifi, until I used an ethernet cable for a little while. Normally, my wifi runs great. I get full signal bars, and about 10 or so other networks show up in my area, and I can connect to wifi at public places and other people's houses when I go out. Then, I used an ethernet cable at my house for a few days, to see if that helped a problem we're having with our router (internet cuts in and out occasionally, but that's not related to my concern). After I rebooted my computer once with the ethernet cable in, the icon in the lower right that shows my network changed. It used to look like signal bars, and when I clicked on it I could see that I was connected to my home network with excellent signal strength and internet, and I could see a list of other local networks. After rebooting with the ethernet cable in, the icon changed into a monitor with an ethernet cable next to it, and when I click on it it shows just my network. When I take the ethernet cable out, my network disappears and it says there are no connections available.
Did I somehow lose a driver? What can I do to fix it? I really need my wireless internet, especially for school, so can I please get some help? Thank you 🙂
