"Wi Fi is not on"

I am not a computer geek. I have an ACER with 8.1 installed and just hooked up Chromecast and have the chromecast screen on my TV, BUT when I click the desktop shortcut for chromecast it comes on and says, "Wi Fi is not on". Does anyone have a clue what to do? Thanks...

Well first things first: Is it on?

If it is then try the simple things first:
Reboot, Re-connect, Re-install. Any of those might help.

Make sure the TV is hooked up to the Wifi.
