I purchased a replacement router for my family's home network. It is a Netgear Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Smart WiFi Router. The model number is R8500. I set it up an hour ago and so far everything seems to be functioning smoothly. I just started using a Google Chrome extension app called Wikibuy which automatically searches other sites such as Amazon, Walmart, and eBay for better prices. When I was looking at the router on Amazon.com, I believe Amazon listed it at $350 and other retailers listed it between $350 and $400. Wikibuy listed a seller on eBay charging $309 for the router. The price in my view did not seem too low to be considered too good to be true. I gave Wikibuy a try and purchased the router from the seller it listed. Wikibuy stated that it handles the purchase with the seller. My understanding was that the router was new. I never buy used computer parts on eBay out of concern that they may be defective or even fake. With the exception of a small tear on the packaging film in the corner, it did not look like the box had been opened. The router itself looked like it had never been touched and had its original wrapping. When I tried registering the product with Netgear, they said that the serial number was registered to someone else and they would transfer it to my name in the next 24 hours. I am currently assuming that the registered name for the serial number was the eBay seller. I just wanted to ask you all the following questions due to my concerns:
1. Would you guys consider the price I paid for the purchase to be too good to be true?
2. What are the chances that I may have purchased a counterfeit router?
3. Are there any other possible issues that I should be aware of from this purchase?
Thanks in advance.
