This happens a few times a day and it can last for a few minutes or it can last for hours. We have 100mbps internet and a lot of the time it grinds to a halt and I have no idea why it's very inconsistent. The router is on the same floor in a room like 10 metres away from me.
I have the Bell Home Hub 2000 router.
If you're on a computer, try running an ethernet cable from your router to your computer. If that doesn't fix the problem, more than likely it's just your ISP and not a problem on your end. Though that may not be the case. There are lots of factors that could affect you in this way.
I forgot why but the technician who installed our router said that it can't be moved to a different location for some reason, so I can't get an ethernet cable from it to my computer. It's in a different room..
It's probably because you have DSL which uses a DSL cable and plugs into an old LAN-line phone outlet. If you have any laptops, try using an ethernet to do what I said. Or try moving your desktop temporarily. If not, you can try a hard reset. Otherwise I'd call your ISP and talk to them about it. It could be a number of issues, from your device you are receiving the internet on, to the modem or router itself, to just software problems, to even just the fact that your desktop is far away from the router and isn't getting a good signal.
