I'm not that of a gamer and now I have an ATI HD4850. But I want to buy an nvidia card for the reason that I use much linux with Gnome 3. But ati support for that is not really that good ,messy drivers and so on. I would like to ask witch nvidia card should I buy. What I want is that it performance like my HD4850 and that it is silent. I play sometimes a game but not to much so it doesn't have to be a big game performer.

Thanks for the help.

* what game/'s do you play ? internet/facebook games don't need that muscle :)
** what do you intend to use the suggested card for ?

you can have performance, alright!, but you won't get anything silent from nvida - since they all run hotter than AMD solutions - thus the reason you haven't seen much silent edition cards from nvidia.

*i'll reserve my thoughts of a GTX560/560Ti* :)

he's not buying this for games first read then reply

I'll play sometimes fifa manager games and sim games not really action games. And if I play them it's only for 30min so I'm not really a gamer. I searched for the gt 450 card at the local pc store here and they have a silent one from asus (ENGTS450 DC SL/DI/1GD3). A gt 520 is that a good card or is the 450 better ?

GT 520 IS GOOD BUT IT CAN'T BEAT GTS 450 BECAUSE 450 HAS MORE CUDA CORE AND LATEST GDDR5 MEMORY WITH 128BITS GTS 450 HAS BETTER MEMORY CLOCK 1804 WHERE AS GT 520 ONLY DDR3 AND LOWER CUDA CORE WITH 64 BITS SO GTS 450 IS BETTER

if you've read the post where the chart is shown, the 520 is like a Lilliput compared to the 450 in fact the 520 is nearly 10 tiers lower than the GTS450

* getting a card similar to the 4850 is the way to go as you only need the one for the driver issue. and I'm guessing you do scripting ? if so what programs?

450 it is :)

ATI linux drivers, ugh. Yeah nVidia drivers aren't perfect either but they get along better ^_^. Anyway I say GTS450 because they are cheap right now. A 9800GT or GTS 250 on clearance (CompUSA gets an odd batch every now and then) aren't a bad choice either. Just make sure that they are reference cards and don't have a crippled memory interface or something 😀.
