Hey, recently my cx750 has failed me and atm i am searching for a new powersupply.
I am using a r9 280x with a fx-8320 and a ga-78lmt-usb3 motherboard
I am aiming for a powersupply that will last me 5-10 years and not one that fails me within 2-3 years like the corsair i just had. I came across a 1.6KW with a 80 plus platinum label called the ''super flower leadex 80 plus platinum 1600watts'' and wanted to buy it until i read that maximum powersupply efficienty is achieved when a psu is run at 20-60% load. And since efficienty is pretty important for the lifetime of a powersupply because the capacitors degrade thanks to heat caused by poor efficienty i am curious wether i should buy this powersupply. I know it seems like overkill but i read that it has a semi passive mode for low loads so i was thinking maybe i can run it like that for my system. But since i am not always running games i want to know the effect that it has when my system is running idle. I know that the efficienty i will be using won't be platinum grade on low loads but i want to know if it will damage the capacitors a lot if i run this beast on my system. And if anyone strongly advices me not to buy it could you please tell me a strong enough powersupply that will last me for a long time even when i plan to crossfire?

If you want to allow for the possibility of multiple graphics cards in the future the 750w model is also a very good choice:

You won't find better units on the market in these wattage classes.

Solution

I like the 10 year warranty idea a lot. Thx for the headsup. But since i do want to experience as little failures as possible related to powersupply degrading do you think the super flower leadex will run on my system smoothly for a period of 5+years?

Yes it should!
