Hello folks, i built a computer last month and after someone told me to wait for the non reference cooled r9 290 instead of the 780 i was pretty happy to save some money where i should buy the cards the r9 290 custom cooled is around 390€ with BF4 bundle and the gtx 780 around 450-460€ so for the price everybody would choose the r9 or am i wrong? The problem here is wich of the 3 that came out should i choose i have seen the sapphire tri-x cooled one is pretty good stable quiet and really well cooled, haven't seen any reviews on the gigabyte version and msi version. Should i buy any of this 3 cards? or should i wait for a better one, and if yes will they arrive soon or in 3-4 months?

R9 290 runs hot ... so u need strong coolers for that ..

the gigabyte windforce or sapphire toxic .. as both got highest temp rates ....

i would buy the tri-x my self ... great clocked .. silent fans .. great cooling ... what else you want !

happy gaming

the r9 for the price. almost anyone who recommends a 780 over the 290 is from north america where the prices on the amd cards have skyrocketed due to the virtual currency mining craze
sapphire tri-x is good, the msi one is actually surprisingly good for the price (it should be the cheapest)

Asus came out with one too as i have heard, but apparently have not done a great job with it sadly (just what i've heard through the grapevine) Powercolor i think also came out with one that has a pretty good cooler.

In north america the 290 and 290x now have a vast variety of custom coolers on different models, so i would expect more models to come to europe within the next 3-4 months for sure.

that being said, i personally am not a fan of the gigabyte cooler, but am a fan of BOTH the toxic and msi variant.

The toxic one is about the best out there at the moment, but make sure you inspect the card fully before you even peel the plastic off of it, as there was a recent surge of cards that got past quality control that didnt even have the branding fully engraved.

Gigabyte and MSI always make good cards - a good balance of performance and noise levels. I'm not sure about the Sapphire Tri-X, but they are getting some very good reviews and selling out fast.

Keep in mind that because of bitcoin and the new generation of cards, everything is overpriced (in particular R9 cards as these are best for bitcoin mining). What kind of card do you have now? If you can get by with what you have now, that would be the best option.

i have the intel hd 4600 so i think i'm really gonna get a r9 also i didn't see that problem here in europe or atleast from where i buy the card, it's still priced 380- 390€. I'm not sure abot the gigabyte one i have read that it had some problems with the cooler and the msi one isn't reviewd yet some say msi have a really poor quality. so i'm not sure on wich one i should go i don't think that those 30- 40 mhz are gonna be so important in gaming, i'm also not gonna overclock it.
