i think this site is gonna b a gr8 help for me if i actually get a hand on a widescreen.
thanx bro. Thank u ppl for ur valuable info. 😀

I went from an old, reliable and big Sony Trinitron CRT to a 24" Acer Widescreen 1920x1200. It works GREAT for old games that use standard resolutions as the monitor automatically streches the games to the borders and there are no black borders! I can't even notice the aspect ratio being stretched. BF1942 looks great on this monitor. Being a gamer and CRT owner I have no complaints about refresh rates or ghosting either. I was very surprised just how good it is. It's an amazing monitor and cheapest in its class at about $500 and dropping.

Wow, thats great I had no idea the price dropped. For the longest time it was at 650~680 USD. Still, 22 inchers are much cheaper and the only caveat besides being slightly smaller is the odd resolution.

So I assume that you can use 1600x1200 and stretch it. Say you had a 19" lcd with 1440x900 or a 20" one w/ 1680x1050. What 5:4 resolution would you set it to?

I tried to hook up my pc to my Panansonic 720p AE700U Projector and I had a lot of issues getting the screen to work right. Farcry didnt work at all.

But what I did learn is that Rainbow 6: 3Raven Shield will work at any resolution that your screen can display. I ran it at 720p native and it looked quite good. So I guess that the Unreal 3 engine (if im right) or just that game allows for any resolution to be used.

Billd,

Many of the newer engines support the "now mainstream" resolutions of HDTV.

720P, 1080i and 1080P are probably supported in every newer engine. They would be fools NOT TO.

PS... I play Unreal Tournament on my Optima H78DC3 at 118" and at 720P res and it looks/plays very well.

Also Billd,

Did you try to set your res in console mode within farcry? You might be able to run custom "full widescreen res" through the console.

I have to set Call of Duty UO this way.. (Lan Parties)

raz/billd,

Be advised that some games support a wider FOV when WS displays/resolutions are used. You may have to enable/tweak them for this though.
