Widows 10 reinstall gets stuck on spinning dots screen!

My laptop is running slow so like I usually do I reset it and reinstall windows while keeping my files. It goes through the progress screen fine, then it gets to a black screen with the spinning dots and it seems to get stuck here. Before when I reset my laptop it takes just a few hours. But I left my laptop for 4 days and it was still on this screen. This is also the second time I've tried, the first I left it for 2 days! My laptop is slow as absolute dick and I need to reset it. Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone?

hard drive could be dying as ran into that problem with a customer's win7 laptop.
