Wifi Adapter keeps turning off USB plug in

My wifi adapter keeps randomly disconnecting maybe once or twice a day regardless it happens so little, it's still very frustrating and I don't know what's causing it if it does it while i'm gaming i'm practically screwed. I am using windows 10 .

is this a USB adapter? is it in a place where it could be "bumped"?

It is a USB adapter yes, and no it's not being bumped at all it does it during large downloads it seems It is a Netgear wnda3100v2

start downloading a file. does the adapter get hot? if it does, it may be overheating and shutting off.
if it gets hot, install the official software for it https://www.netgear.com/support/product/WNDA3100v2.aspx

download Version 2.2.0.3 (Supports Win8.1)

and see if there's a power saving mode in the software's setting, if so activate it. see if that helps.
also, is it plugged into a usb3 or usb2 port?

I downloaded the software previously earlier today and it still didn't fix, Where do I go for power saving mode? and it's in usb 3

Used to happen to my mouse and fixed it. Imagine being in-game and you mouse stops working all of a sudden.

Go to device manager and locate "Universal Serial Bus Controllers"
Expand it and do the following for each one of them.
Right click and click Properties. Go to Power Management tab and uncheck all boxes.

If you see you device under Network Adapter in the device manager do the same.

If the problem persists search "edit power plan" in start. Click on change advanced power settings. Expand USB Settings and make sure "USB selective suspend setting" is disabled and "Wireless Adapter Setting" set to "Maximize Performance".

Hope that helped. Your computer basically turns the adapter off to save power. Please note your power consumption will increase though nothing noticeable.

The USB Root is the important one. Keep us posted and we'll figure it out.

i'd recommend using the USB2 port, as my adapter overheats somehow in the usb3 port, but works fine in 2. the software may actually not have power settings, it seems to vary by model. if you can't find it, it might not be an option.
