I returned from vacation and turned one of my PCs on and couldn't connect to the internet. The WiFi adapter wasn't seeing any networks at all, so I plugged in an ethernet cable, which also couldn't connect. Everything was fine before, no changes were made prior to the issue...

I checked device manager and both adapters were disabled; I enabled them, they would connect briefly, then disable again.
Both show code 22.
Drivers are up to date.

The WiFi adapter works fine on other machines, and also tried other known good adapters with the same issue.

Reboots don't change anything.

It seems that the adapters are fine, and that the problem lies with something that they have in common down-stream... what would that be?

Windows 10 Pro
Dell Optiplex 990

Boot a portable linux USB stick. That will tell you if it is hardware or software.

On the PC in question run "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) via the Command Prompt.

This shows that your network adapter is not recognized. Like there is a driver problem. Maybe your disk is failing.
Check the device manager and see if there are "unknown" devices or devices with exclamation points.

A PCI port:

PCI Serial Port
Device type: other
MFG: unknown
Location: PCI bus 0, device 22 function 3

Status:
Drivers not installed (code 28)
No compatible drivers

Only one slot is occupied; the display adapter, bus 1, working properly.
As for the network adapter not being recognized, neither is the wifi adapter, which is separate (USB), this happened simultaneously.

Is that the full "ipconfig /all" ?

Re -TeamViewer: Is there any chance that someone else used or attempted to use your PC while you were gone?

Also "yes" for Device Manager. Just be sure to check under the View tab that "Show hidden devices" is checked.

And look in Reliability History/Monitor for error codes, warnings, or informational events that may have been captured just before you left, while you were gone, and after you returned and tried to use the PC.

Last thought: when the PC was turned on after you returned it probably had some updates to download and install. Look in Update History for any failed or problem updates.

If your windows installation is corrupted then there could be commonality.
Does anything show up under "Network Adapters" in device manager?
I would definitely work for the USB Linux OS to eliminate Windows as the problem.
