Hello, before i start explaining please keep in mind I'm new to wifi extenders.
So, i have a TP-Link archer c5 dual band router, with 240Mbit down and 20Mbit up. I got a new phone that supports 5Ghz so i was really happy when i found out i have 240mb on my phone now. That was great but i found out that i get very low 5gz signal in my room (upstairs, router is downstairs and cannot be moved).
So I decided to buy a dual band wifi extender (TP-Link RE 210) and place it in my flat. I set it to have same ssid as the router so i dont have to worry about reconnecting while walking around. Now i have strong signal in my room but the speed is around 60Mb. I thought hey, this i still fine, better than no signal, but I found out that with the extender on, i get shitty speeds even when sitting next to the router thatwas giving me 240Mb speed before. Tried turning extender off and was getting great speeds again while next to the router, but there is still problem with the signal in my room. I know that extenders cut down the speed but that shouldn't happen when I'm next to the source.
I'm asking for advice. What should I do? How can I extend the signal without slowing it down too much? Can I achieve good speeds across the whole flat without buying another access point (+ switch (out of ports) and doing a ton of unwanted wiring)?
Haven't tried setting the extended to ssid to something different. Could that solve my problem? I will have to reconnect manually on my phone when walking to different room though.
Thanks for any help.
