Wifi extender to 5g

I have a wifi extender and its using my 2.4g and not my 5g is there a way to switch it?

Unknown. You didn't provide a model number for anyone to determine if is 5Ghz compatible.

If you look at the last page of the datasheet -- http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/datasheet/en/WN3000RPv3.pdf You will see that device ONLY supports 2.4Ghz. It will never connect to 5Ghz.
