If you're not renting, the ethernet cable can be run outside the house tucked under the siding or through the crawl space or attic with just two holes drilled. There are also flat cables for running under carpet or out of windows.
I've seen powerline adapters tested with worse ping than Wifi (depends entirely on your house wiring), and remember the typical Wifi repeater doubles latency and halves bandwidth because it only has one radio. Some of those expensive mesh models use 2 radios, dedicating a different channel or band to the backhaul connection so they only double latency and don't affect bandwidth.
If you have coax running to every room there's also MOCA to consider.
