My laptop is a fairly new HP, it was my dad's until he recently gave it to me. He's never mentioned any problems with its internet. I think it was a windows 7 before it updated to windows 10. Recently I moved out, and the internet modem belongs to my flatmates so I don't really want to mess around with it to try and solve my problem.
The internet keeps disconnecting, and I usually only know because the webpages I try to load tell me, when the network icon says that the internet is fine. Sometimes this changes soon after to the yellow alarm triangle and sometimes it doesn't. Aside from that, the internet is also quite slow when it does work. I don't remember having this issue before I moved out but then I didn't get to use it much before. Sometimes it doesn't pick up any networks at all. I can't even load a short youtube clip. It connects okay to my phone's internet if I use it as a wifi hotspot but that's not a long-term solution.
My location relative to the modem doesn't seem to matter, and even when I use other networks like at university I get the same issue, if a little less bad. I don't have this issue on any of my other devices, including an ancient laptop and my smartphone. Windows Network Diagnostics doesn't pick up any issues either. I've already looked for solutions online and tried so many I can barely remember how many or what I did, none of them have worked. I know that I have tried updating the drivers, and even did a factory reset but the problem still persists 10+ times a day. I'm not sure what technical information I should put in here to help, but any ideas?
