I'm trying to get WiFi to work on an MSI X870E Carbon motherboard under windows 11. I've set BIOS to use WiFi with BT turned off (on or auto doesn't seem to matter). There doesn't appear to be a WiFi Adapter listed in Device Manager. Ethernet works fine.

I tried installing a WiFi adapter from the included usb. Realtek was the only one that did an install (qualcom said there wasn't an appropriate driver in the directory). After running the installer, it gave a message that it was successful. But looking under the "settings" and "device manager" there was no wifi adapter installed. It also didn't show up after rebooting.

I also tried downloading drivers from the msi website for this motherboard, but the installer said there weren't any appropriate drivers in the directory.

Any suggestions/advice on how to debug this?

Thanks!

Duane.

I tried installing the drivers from the msi website (as KingLoki suggested), but none were recognized as valid.

I also tried a Netgear Nighthawk with bad results. when i installed the driver for the nighthawk, it did show up but was automatically removed (sometimes with a delay, sometimes right away). also, before the driver was removed, it would cycle through looking for wifi networks (could see this looking under the wifi icon). every few seconds it would refresh, sometimes finding networks and sometimes clearing the list (so was nearly impossible to connect to any network). I was able to enter my wifi password once and connect, but the driver got removed by the system (and i've never been abe to connect or get the driver working again). the same thing happens with wifi turned on or off in the bios.

I found on another thread that reseting CMOS can work.

I got it working today doing something related. When doing the inital build, I was unable to get two sticks of RAM working. When I ran one stick it would post, and then adding a second stick after that it would post. I suspect the process of changing the hardware configuration causes it to re-initialize. Today I added two M2 sticks, unplugged the system to drain power, and pressed power while unplugged. When I rebooted wifi was working, and stayed working when I rebooted as a check.
