Hi friends,

I have a Lenovo ideapad Z570 laptop that comes with DOS and no windows. I had Windows 7 till the last week when I upgraded to Windows 8.
After installing windows 8 I have not been able to switch ON the Wifi of my laptop. tried installing the latest drivers, but still doesn't work. ( It says Wifi (Off)).

According to the Device manager my wifi adapter is Qualcom Atheros AR9285.

Can anyone of you experts please help me. (I have windows 8 x32 bit)

Thanks already.

Assuming that you've switched it on, have you tried Fn plus F5 to configure? If that doesn't work you are missing either a driver or a piece of software. Suggest you download and install everything from the Lenovo Support for your Model from here
http://support.lenovo.com/en_GB/downloads/default.page?
There might be something in Mouse and Keyboard...

Dear Mr. Dodger, Thanks a lot for your interest. Actually there is no button to switch it on. The physical buttons are ON but in the software, I cannot find a button to switch it on.
when I open the Networking screen it just says Wifi (Off) and no option to switch it on. Please provide me your email id I can send you the screenshot.
P.S. : I have installed all the drivers. Still didn't work.
Thank you

Is Wireless disabled in Adapter Settings?
Control Panel/Network and Internet/View Network Status and Tasks/Change Adapter Settings

Hello Mr. Dodger,
In the adapter settings the Wifi icon says "not connected" and when I right click and click the "Connect/Disconnect" button it opens up the side window showing Wifi(Off) as shown in the screenshot.

There is no button on screen to switch on the wifi.

P.s. The lightshot was a good idea thank you.

On your Driver Download screen you should see Windows 8 Support, and when you click on it another list of Drivers is shown
I think you should download all the drivers and software on that list and hope that the Wireless Connection can be made.

Dear Mr. Dodger,
I had already downloaded all the windows 8 drivers and installed them. But still the problem persists? I cant find a reason why. Some people say there is some problem between windows 8 and Wifi that many people are facing. NO SOLUTION. :(

I had a similar problem with an HP Laptop, except that I couldn't load the drivers at all. This is what I ended up buying, works well and is very small.

Hope you can buy one in your area...

Before you do above, I found this
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Ideapad-U410-Qualcomm-Atheros-AR9285-and-Windows-8-fiasco/td-p/924529
The Driver File you want should be this one (I extracted a direct link from Softpedia
http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/driver/drvs/2012/04/5058_695ed10f5ebd5c2ddde95df1137f71a3f2f395e9.cab
Choose 'Save as' and then 'Open Folder' (Note the location of your folder, ie Local Disk C:Downloads
Double click the CAB file to extract the driver inf file, and remember it's location
go to device manager > double click on your atheros wifi device > driver tab >update driver > browse my computer for driver..... > navigate to folder where you have extracted files from zip package > then next
Fingers crossed it will work...

Done that. Still no use. I had a diagnostic tool by intel. It diagnosed in its hardware test as "Wireless hardware is not bound to the transport driver"

And by the way, it this (http://www.junglee.com/EDUP-Wireless-Wi-Fi-Adapter-Dongle/dp/B00AHA4CKC/ref=dp_mitem_783367031_1_2) the same thing that you were telling me about. Actuatlly the adapter by Edimax is quite expensive here. So thought would try some another brand.

I have the same laptop and had to do a Windows format today. I tried everything. As a last resort, I defaulted BIOS settings (except SATA/AHCI). When I restarted the PC, WIFI was surprisingly on. Posting here so may be useful for others too.
