Hello everyone!

I have a problem on my HP 250 G3 laptop. Couple of days ago my WiFi signal suddenly decreased. And I also noticed that everytime I opened the laptop lid the connection was limited. And had to wait some minutes for it to dissapear. But signal is still low. All other devices in the same area as laptop have better signal and are working fine.

I have the latest driver for wireless adapter.

I tried some thing to fix like:

  • -Removed adapter and reinstalled
-Changed adapter from older ASUS laptop (same problems)
-Run: chkdsk, sfc /scannow, CCleaner for registry, antivirus...
-Today I also refreshed the Windows if that will fix it and still the same.

I have all updates for Windows 8.1, all drivers are updated.
My router is Buffalo - WZR-1750DHP Version 2.24

If anyone has any idea I would really appreciate it!

I found something strange couple of minutes ago.

If I open laptop lid like that:
No_Wi_Fi.png

I get no WiFi, it is at 1-2 bars and says Limited connection and nothing works.

If you put my laptop lid like this:
Wi_Fi.png

Then it works with 4-5 bars...
What could that be?

Do you think it can be fixed? Should I open it and check the antenna wire?

You'd have to disassemble the entire laptop, not something recommended for a novice. It could possibly be fixed, or it could just be a loose connection.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uflt7KWhI0k shows the disassembly process (although it's in Italian I think). He's disconnecting the wireless card at 5:20. If those wires connected to it are loose, that could be your problem.

This seems to be a rather new laptop model. I'd contact HP support and see if you can get it fixed or replaced for free under warranty support.

I already disassembled it some time ago. I just noticed on that video that he has 2 antenna wires. My laptop only has one. I will probably check everything tomorrow.

There are usually 2 wires, one black, one white. The black one is the 'main' or primary.

Actually his had just the black wire. The 2 wire connector was the power for the fan.

The wire connector is very finicky on the wireless card, it has to be connected 'just right', so you may have not seated it properly when you disassembled it.

I opened my laptop again and moved antenna wire a little bit towards screen and now it seems to be working. :)
