I installed a usb wifi stick in a old windows 2000 pc, the stick is the SMC smcwesb-g.
It says it is compatible with windows 2000, I installed the drivers and the configuration software, I can connect to the internet, but it cut out every couple seconds and then reconnects for a couple seconds before cutting out again.
I'm at a loss as to why this is happening.

That suggests a DRIVER issue, regardless of the fact it's supposed to work.

Since it WORKS in the same PC under XP then there's not much you can do likely since you have installed the driver software.

There may be a specific SETTING in the software that would help but I have no idea what that would be. Perhaps something related to POWER, or buffering or whatever

I solved the issue, in a rather odd way. I put the wifi card in a different pc with windows 2000, and it works fine. I appreciate you guys responding to my question, I assume not many people would like to help someone fooling around with an old os, so thank you all.
