Hello all,
My issue is pretty simple but I can't find the solution... I have in my work an Ethernet cable just lying there. If I connect a device it will have internet. What I would like to succeed is to connect a wifi device and have unlocked wifi for my smartphone. ( unlocked =I have no router pswd etc which means just connect and play).
Thank you all in advance.

You could connect an access point, or configure an old router to act as such?

Something pretty cheap could do the job:
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833704052&Description=wireless%20access%20point&cm_re=wireless_access_point-_-33-704-052-_-Product

Not the best, and 802.11N only, but still.

As for a lack of a password, you could remove any password within the settings for the AP.......Although I wouldn't do that - you're still connecting to overall network, and lacking a password there would allow easy access by nefarious individuals.

Just remember your company security is now dependent on YOUR abilities to protect it. Because you come here asking such a simple question are you really sure you are qualified to set something like this up.

This tends to be why companies have policies saying you can not connect any unauthorized equipment because someone will "think" they know what they are doing but not.

If the company is smart they have their equipment configured to prevent you from doing this.

Unauthorized WiFi device is the problem here.
In a lot of work places, doing that means a quick walk right out the door.

Go through your boss and IT guy for this.
If they say "Yes", they will tell you how to do it.
