Setup a new Password.

How to Find or Change Your Internet Security Passphrase \ Password


1) Open the web browser that you use: Firefox,Google Chrome,IE,or Opera and type in the IP address for your router,and press the Enter key.

2) A window will open and then type in your routers default username and password,and press the Enter key again

3) Navigate to the Wireless Security\Network Security Settings Tab and open it to locate or change your WEP or WPA Security Passphrase.
Use WPA because it provides better security.

4) Write this Security Passphrase down and put it in a safe place to access when needed.

5) Save settings and close your browser.

*FYI, in addition to different security methods you can usually tell the router NOT TO BROADCAST your network name. You then type in the name and password manually, however if you change the details chances are nobody will even "see" your network to attempt to hijack it.

This is a bad idea, its still really easy to find out the SSID, and a fake router could broadcast that SSID, your computer will connect to it and voila credentials stolen.

Still wondering how he knows his network was hacked. Doesn't it seem odds that he KNOWS his network is hacked, but doesn't know how to make simple security adjustments. The former is a more difficult skill than the latter.

anyone who uses a simple password is just not properly educated. use every key you can, upper / lower / number / character. sometimes even a space is a valid character. 24 characters is probably a good starting point. I think I use 60.

It's likely that there's a few basic hackers in the area, and they're just hacking onto your WiFi. Using BackTrack, you can basically crack any WiFi network with a little persistence, and it's pretty unpreventable. Probably the best method would be to go into your router settings, and limit access to certain MAC addresses. While there is still a way to get around this, it's definitely a more reliable method of keeping the basic hackers off your network.
