All of sudden my desktop has begun having problems with WiFi connection.

If I can manage to connect to the WiFi I have no luck actually using it; I can't load webpages or generally connect to the internet in any way at all.
I can, however, connect with my phone and then use my phone's hotspot without any troubles at all.

I have swapped my network card with another from an older desktop but only had the same problems. Drivers are all updated.

Any help would be great.
Thanks.

I would:
  1. remove the WiFi network on the desktop and do a new scan for available networks
  2. If the WiFi network appears, connect with the correct password
If this doesn't help, I would create a new WiFi network on the access point with basic settings, just for testing even without access control. See if this works. Basic settings often include support for older clients explicitly, 802.11b for example.

If you have a dual band hotspot 2,4 and 5 GHz, you might check if there is no hardware issue with the wireless sender: The phone might be able to connect via 5GHz, while older WiFi cards in desktops don't.

hope this helps
