I'm trying to extend my WiFi connection however I have some strange requirements and options I could try. I can use a free WiFi connection from a library across the street at my job. Or my friend said I can use her WiFi. I would use this WiFi on my college work that I'm allowed to do at my job for a few hours a night.

I can't get a connection to my friends at all probably low output signal. The library I can get signal rarely. One night I had two bars. If I'm in the parking lot I get 3 bars to max bars. This is strange to me because of the distance...

The library is maybe 300 feet away, my friends is maybe 500. The parking lot is about 100 feet closer to the library. I mean distance wise i could hit my car with a baseball from work and from my car I could get pretty close to hitting the library. No additional buildings or anything but I can't obtain line if sight due to window placement.

I have tried two attempts at WiFi extentions, tp772n and awus036nha. The awus picked up more connections and was the only time I was able to connect. The tp772n had less power.

Now given the fact I'm at work that limits my possibilities, clearly no outside mounted antennas, it would have to be something relatively easy to carry and move hence the prior attempts being usb.

I've considered looking at a repeater and maybe just putting it in my car with a usb charger (unsure with winter killing battery). Or sort of cantenna (unsure with lack of LoS and size). I'm open to options and possibly links of reliable equipment if you have an idea.

Thanks for taking the time to read hopefully someone can assist.

Solution
Likely the distance is not the issue as much as the wall of the house. It always will work better when you go outside eliminating one wall. It also is best if both ends have devices placed outside because of the walls.

You can still look at directional equipment. The pricing on outdoor bridge equipment has come down so far a directional antenna cost about the same as a device that combines the directional antenna and bridge. You can use outdoor equipment indoors but it is completely unpredictable how much effect a wall can have. It should be somewhat better but you now are dependent on a direct signal rather than maybe a reflected one.

Both engenious and ubiquiti sell relatively inexpensive units. Something like a enh202 just...

Thanks for both of your responses I'm looking intothe products. The enh202 looks pretty decent or a variety of it. I guess in trying to figure out what type of these products in actually looking for. They have the bullet and ac units as well as bridges.

I'm OK with using my laptop or a wall plug and as stated usb or usb charger. I'm looking for something as least intrusive as possible. It wouldn't be ideal hazing to plug the device in at my friends or having to go to her house just to set it up. Just looking for a plug in and go or maybe since ip configuration stuff obviously to relay the ip or extend my connection.
