Hi guys. I am on this forum today because i recently encountered a problem regarding wireless network range. For many years I have had my router in my bedroom and I have been able to connect to the wireless network flawlessly throughout the house. Recently I had my basement finished and when i moved my media sever, ps4 and tv down here i noticed that the wifi signal was terrible. I have researched wifi repeaters, power line adapters, everything. I even considered moving my router to my ground floor and having it broadcast both upward and downward but I do extensive downloads with my desktop in my bedroom and need an ethernet connection, so that is not a option. I was hoping someone could help me out with some options that I could implement to have my wifi broadcast throughout the house.

If you have ethernet from the basement to first floor, put a wireless access point on the first floor. You could try giving it the same SSID and password. That may or may not work satisfactorily. You may end up with different SSIDs between the two WIFI sources.

Well, I've recently faced a similar issue and following are the steps I took to somewhat cope the situation:

  • - Review and change the current placement of my existing/main wireless router to get better over all results.
    - Bought another wireless router to use as a wireless access point in the basement.
    - Installed the router (now an AP) in the basement and connected it with the main router.
    - *This one may look going an extra mile to you but in most cases it does wonders* - I installed DD-WRT on the main router t0o get the most out of my somewhat shitty internet speed by using its QoS service and prioritizing the services which need most stable internet speed (Skype/Gaming/VoIP services, etc)

I hope this helps if your matter is not yet resolved.
