[SOLVED] Wifi/repeater speed issue

Hello everyone,

I have an issue with my router/repeater. My family set up a repeater, so they would get better connectivity in the house. The thing is, the wifi shows as 1 in the wifi list, but my phone keeps connecting to what seems to be the repeater, as the speed of my wifi speed falls dramatically.

How can I solve this and how can I avoid having my devices connect to the wifi through the repeater? Is there a way to block my phone from connecting to the repeater, but connect to what I used to connect to?

Thanks in advance

It depends on the repeater. Some you can use different SSID on the repeater as the main router. When you use the same SSID the device will attempt to connect to the strongest signal which works most the time. This is the problem with a repeater. The signal maybe stronger but because it must make a second wifi hop to the main router it will be slower. So sometimes a weaker signal directly to the router can be better.

Not sure what to suggest, see if the repeater has the option to use different SSID. Then again you may have lazy people in your house that do not want to be bothered connecting manually to the best SSID and would prefer it to be the same just so they can do nothing.
