I I say in title , Im looking for some info about attached to a router via usb 3.0 some volume like 16Tb
In practice I have Tested my Drobo 5D with Asus rt-ac68u and now Linksys EA6900
the 5D has a 16Tb volume and I connect this to my wifi router via usb 3.0
But Asus has a lot of problem, it look like a cheap OS with many bugs.
The linksys look like more stable
The EA6900 see my 16TB volume true usb 3.0, but some times can't see the used space inside ( sometimes report 16TB used , some time the correct used data )
The big think is why I don't have speed
Both Asus and Linksys report 14MB writing and 24MB reading no more than that
What is the incompatibility? how can I check where the problem with speed test reside ?
I change cables, I do last update firmware or even downgrade
I use HFS+ as a file system
The Drobo 5D on usb 2.0 got 32MB writing and 40MB reading

I understand that , and what option do I have to put this powerful DAS Drobo 5D in a small network ? ( 5D has 2xThunderbolt and 1xusb 3.0 )
something that not cost a lot , and not attached to a computer , I just whant to have 5D online all the times.

I just wrote a post, over at Amazon.com, that answers this exact question -- I has recently brought a NETGEAR R6250, which LOOKED like a AirPort Extreme killer - it was NOT!

In short, the ONLY router that will consistently/reliably work with the Drobo is the Apple AirPort Extreme (or the Airprt Time Capsule -- THAT'S IT!

Go read the R6250 Amazon review (titled, "from Apple...to Netgear...BACK to Apple) for more details on this.

I have an ASUS AC-68U and I attached a Drobo DDR3A21 USB3 model to it. I had to do a few things to get it working the way I wanted it to work, which was not straightforward.

1st, while I could have used NTFS, I have read the EXT3 is the better way to go, since the OS on the ASUS runs Linux, so why not go with the native filesystem?

To format my Drobo with EXT3, I had to use Acronis Disk Director 2012 on a Windows10 PC, since Windows only lets me format NTFS, as well as the Drobo Dashboard. It is sad, because I know Drobo supports EXT3, but their software makes you choose either NTFS if Windows, and HPS+ if MAC. I know they support EXT3 because their Droboshare device formats your Drobo with EXT3 if want to use your Drobo as a NAS.

I also did not want to run into any trouble with the Thin Provisioning, so I opted to NOT use the 16TB volume size, even though Drobo reports to my OS that the size is 16TB. I used 4 x 2TB drives, so my total space would be about 6TB before rounding down, so rather than guessing the exact amount after rounding, I just went with 5TB. I know, I shorted myself something like 500GB, but I did not want to guess wrong and provision for more space than I had. I am not sure if the new Drobo 3's can provision smaller amounts, I know my older Drobo S I can specify whether to use thin provisioning or not. The Drobo 3 seems to default to 16TB no matter what I tried. So, 5TB I knew I was safe and would not exceed my true volume size with this amount of space.

Once I had the correct filesystem, the correct volume size and no thin provisioning, and the correct USB cable, I felt like I was ready to go. So, I powered down the ASUS, plugged the Drobo into the USB3 port, and fired everything up. Initially, it worked fine; my router saw the Drobo, even called it Drobo, and named the disk/share "sda2". I previously had a regular 500GB USB drive attached, so I assume that was called "sda1", so the next logical name went to the Drobo, I guess?

After about 1.5 days, I noticed the Drobo was in sleep mode, with only the sleep light being on. What was weird was why? I rebooted everything, and the Drobo has having issues being found, with no changes being made by me. So, I moved the Drobo to the USB2 port, maybe it will be more compatible?

So good, so far. After running all weekend, I copied over the wire all the files from the USB2 500GB disk, and this went without issue. I was on day 3 with the Drobo using the EXT3 filesystem, and I was happy at this point. I guess the USB3 port is less reliable?
