It has been happening for about 3 weeks now. I got Cox cable to send me a new modem/router. I tried clearing the caches on my phone and rebooting...Ive changed my wifi password to make sure it wasnt being overused by an unknown source..

My computer, which is hardwired, works great. No issues at all.

But my phone, when im playing a game or on facebook, every five to ten minutes it goes to a buffering screen and basically stops working. It doesnt usually show that the wifi is disconnected, you still see the little symbol. But nothing works until you cancel wifi. then the games/apps will resume in 4g. You can typically turn off the wifi and turn it back on in a minute and it works again, but only for five more damn minutes. Ive sat on the phone for hours with many clueless technical supporters from Cox and i just dont have the time for their useless, repetitive nonsense.

My stuff has been running fine for ages, so I dont get the issue. I thought when my s6 updated that most recent big update, that maybe it had something to do with it. But it seems to happen to anyone who uses their phone over here. and now even when i stream things to the xbox one, ill get some buffering every few minutes, and then it eventually kicks back on after a bit of freezing up. I can only deduce it is router/wifi related.

I have now used up all my phone data when i never even come close to that, because i cant really use wifi. itll mess you up if you start something with wifi on and then it screws up right in the middle of doing something. PLEASE PLEASE help me. this has stressed me out to the point where i just want start smashing things. I cannot figure it out. Thank you for any help

I can't think of a solution, but based on your comments it does sound like a router problem.

If you can't solve it I suggest buying your own router. Possibly one that supports "AC" though you may not have any current devices that support this.

So..
If you CANCEL wi-fi then restart and it works that implies to me some issue with:
a) the phone, or
b) the COX service, or
c) the router

Problem is since it's not just your phone I'd rule that out, but also since your ethernet (wired) solution works I'd rule that out the COX service (ISP on their end over network).

That to me only leaves one possibility:
1) The wi-fi part of the router is defective. (and you got it replaced with a defective model...)

Sorry I can't help much, but so far all I can think is to buy your own, quality router (either with MODEM separate or included), or try to have them fix it yet again.

Update: sometimes you can get INTERFERENCE on the same frequency such as the 2.4GHz band being screwed up by someone else's portable phone. I doubt that's your issue but thought I should mention it.

I cant afford to buy parts until its fixed. i appreciate the help. hoping to hear that its definitely defective before i just buy a new one. it has worked just fine for about the whole year ive had it. this just recently started messing up
