For the past three months, I have had good speeds on my pc with an asus pce-a56 wifi card connected to my rt ac68 router. I have a 1000Mbps connection. In the living room, the same room as where my router is, I get 200-500+, sometimes more Mbps using my phone to test.

In my bedroom where my pc is located, I get about 40-100+Mbps on 5ghz . The signal is slower (one or two bars on the bottom right icon) because it's about 25 feet from the router in the living room separated by walls. It's more than enough for what I need.

Lately, the past week, the signal has weakened and my bedroom speeds come to a crawl. I'm getting under 10Mbps on speedtest, sometimes much lower, maybe 1-3Mbps. I have not moved or touched anything. I rebooted my router once to see if that would work but it did not.

I've had issues with my pc lately freezing and also a disappearing hdd. I'm not sure if any of that is related or if I should look deeper into my wifi hardware situation.

Thank you. I'm just hoping to be able to narrow down the issue.

The 2.4g band certainly has a stronger signal, full bars but slower in the bedroom and less consistent. Changing channels doesn't seem to have made much of a difference but I'll try it again and see if I have any luck.

Edit: My isp spesds are not always at 1Mbps, sometimes it's slower. I thought it may have something to do with that but I noticed when I check my router stuff through my pc in the bedroom, it's very slow so it's probably something to do with the wifi connection rather than the speeds of wifi I'm getting from the isp slowing down.
