Wifi working, hardwire internet broken

I just did a huge remodeling of the room the modem and router are kept in, which involved unplugging everything and placing it somewhere else. Everything seemed fine, since everything wireless was functioning perfectly. However, my brother came to me, complaining that his wired internet connection wasn't working, and hasn't been working since the remodel.

I took a look at it, the troubleshooter says "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. I tried resetting the modem and router, deleting his connections, renewing the IP address... Nothing seemed to work, so I assumed he'd screwed it up somehow, and I eventually gave up on it. I finished remodeling the room, set up my desktop, lo and behold, the wired internet isn't functioning on *my* desktop either.

So it's not the computers themselves, I don't think. Do you suppose my router is busted? It's a wireless router, and the wireless throughout the house is working perfectly. My computer is giving the same error: "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

Here is my ipconfig:

That is the default address you get when there is no connection to the DHCP server. I would suspect, based on the timing, that the cabling was altered during the remodel. Use a network cable tester to check the integrity of the cabling in the walls -- perhaps it is a simple wire switch. Did you do anything that you know of to the CAT5 cabling in the walls?

How do the cables connect, is there a patch panel or switch or do all of the connections just run directly to the router? And yes, I think that the computers are fine. The router is probably fine too since the wireless works.

Yeah a 169. address is given when something isnt working quite right.

What is the WAN settings on the router?

Try setting a static IP address on your computer as 192.168.2.15 and your brothers as 192.168.2.16 with subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 and default gateway as 192.168.2.1
