Question Wifi works with Win but not with Ubuntu

Hello everybody.
Yesterday the laptop was OK but I had Ubuntu 14.04 which I thought it was too old and so I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 via terminal.
Now the wifi connection does not work.
I have the list of providers and I choose the right one but its wifi symbol has a little lock on it.
I tried different things, like working through the settings but to no avail.
I do not get the little window where I can type the router password.
I never had this problem before.
Anyone can give me a little help?

Have you installed the drivers for your laptops network card, i had an issue on a ubunu based distro where i had to uninstall the network manager and reinstall it, which i've forgotten how to do i will take a look and get back to you once i've figured it out.
