I am thinking os adding a WIFI adapter card to my computer so that I can use my 32" TV as a monitor. Would the adapter come with thheneeded program to link it to my modem's network or would I need a separate program?

The adapter I am thnking of buying is the MINI PCI TO PCI Wireless Card Desktop Adapter For AR9220 AR9223 AR9160 BCM4322 on ebay.

Windows comes with what a wifi card needs to connect to your present wifi network. But why a b/g/n adapter?

The TV part is harder, as while recent Windows also comes with the correct software to mirror/project to a wireless display, it requires a smart TV that accepts mirroring/casting over wifi. And unlike with the HDMI cable, the GPU is emulated in software so can present quite a load on a weak CPU

My computer is on the other side of the room than the TV and the modem is connected to the internet via cable. To use an HDMI cable between the computer and the TV would take at least a 20' cable so it can be routed along the wall and over a door.

The cable internet connection has a modem with a panaramic wifi network built into it which presently is connected to the computer via ethernet cable. The TV has 2 HDMi inputs one of which is connected to a roku device which picks up the WIFI network from the modem but will not display my computer as such. I want to move my computer closer to the TV so I can connect to the TV via the 2nd HDMI input without the hassle of string a wifi cable all over the room. I can switch between the two HDMI inputs with my TV remote.

To clarify a few points:

The cable internet connection has a modem with a panaramic wifi network built into it which presently is connected to the computer via ethernet cable.
Your computer is connected via Ethernet cable direct to your Cable Internet, i.e. the computer is not using WiFi. Is this correct?

N.B. I use a small 4-way switch located by the TV with an Ethernet feed into the back of the TV and another Ethernet feed into my media PC, sitting under my TV. The local 4-way switch by the TV splits the Ethernet feed from the broadband router upstairs. I don't use WiFi on my TVs.

Wiring the HDMI output of your computer directly to the TV is the best option. You should get decent 4K (UHD) video (depending on HDMI cable length) if your computer's graphics card is fast enough to provide 2160p @ 30Hz, otherwise you'll be limited to SD 1080p and 720p from the PC.
