Im thinking of upgrading my gpu and noticed my psu (antec vp450 450w) only has 1 6 pin connector, would connecting the 1 6 pin and letting the rest of the watts come from the pci-e 3.0 be an acceptable alternative than to upgrading my psu as well as gpu?

Solution
Not a good idea. If the card is made to take 2x6 pin connectors then you need both. I have heard stories of cards being destroyed by only one plugged in, something to do with too much cross feed from one set of voltage regulators to the other set.
Do you have two unused molex connectors (preferably on different feed cables), if you do, you can always use a molex to 6 pin adaptor.
