Will 1089p look better on a smaller screen?

If i understand this right 1920 x 1080 (i think those are the numbers...) refers to the amount of pixels on the screen. Will having say a 24 inch monitor look better than a 27 inch monitor because the pixels have to be smaller to fit on the smaller monitor?

Yes and no. 24 will have a higher pixel density, but 27" monitors at the same resolution often just look more impressive. I do prefer 1440p on 27"+ but if I had a choice between 24 or 27" 1080p I would go for the 27" personally.
The pixel will be larger but you will generally have a larger screen and less eyestrain and a bit further back on your desk. Overall I think 27 wins. Also note that there can be drastic differences between two 1080p monitors depending on technology used, but if we just go for pixel density 24" will look finer pixels but I still wouldnt say that you can see the pixels on a 27" unless you really go very close to it which you shouldn't.

The pixel densitiy of 1080p on 24" is higher than on 27".
Higher pixel density means sharper image but if you will profit from it is another question which is also related to your distance of viewing.
If you sit far enough, there is no difference having 1080p on 24" or 27" or even 42" if you sit further.
For computer normal usage let say 2-5 feet away, 24" is widely considered optimum for 1080p while 27" is more for 1440p.
1080p is still fine on 27" but no longer sharp enough if you sit near enough.
Why don't you go and try to compare those in a store near home using your own eyes?

It is not that simple. Sharpness, pixel density and viewing distance are related closely to each other.
This is why 1080p even on 42" is still sharp enough...while 1080p on 6" could be already not sharp enough....

For me @2-3 feet away, the difference between 1080p on 24 and 27 is noticeable. Not yet a big difference but noticeable already.

It is just ~10cm, but for some reason feels much more. Every time I come home and sit to 27" it feels like Goliath compared to 24" David at work. Albeit have to admit 27" is several grades above level of the 24" one.

Your 1080p image will look better on the better screen. But if the two screens are on par given their specs, 27" will give you better experience. The only thing I'd consider getting 24" compared to 27" would be either severe lack of table space or very good 24" vs pretty lousy 27".

Resolution doesn't mean the amount of pixels on the screen, it means the amount of pixels across the horizontal and vertical axis.

All other factors being equal (distance, panel type, ambient lighting, etc.) then yes, a smaller screen will produce a sharper image. Whether or not you'll notice it is another story.

I personally would get the smaller one, because in my case, everything else being equal, DPI is a lot more important than size. I've used a 18,4'' 1080p monitor, and it felt SO much better than my 24'' 1080p.
But I'm one of the few people who would get an Anti-reflect monitor instead of an anti-glare. I HATE anti-glare, the loss in sharpness is really annoying.
