just got a new gaming pc... specs:

gigabyte ga-z77-ds3h mobo
intel i5 3570k cpu @ 3.40ghz
8gb ram

im running on board graphics at the moment and i am looking to get a good video card. i am looking to play battlefield 3 on medium-high (not ultra) and i am wonder if a 560 ti will be a good choice. i was originally going to get a gtx 670 but i want to be sure that a 560 ti will work since im looking for more of a budget gaming pc. i know that the 670 will obviously perform better but if i can get 50-60 fps in bf3 with a 560 ti i will choose that.

edit: also i will be playing at 1280x1024 until i can get a new monitor but when i do upgrade will a 560 ti handle it at 1080p?

I'm kinda new to this whole gaming PC thing, but from my gaming experiences and PC experiences, you should be perfectly fine with the 560 ti. I'm seeing ultra at about 30 frames, maybe more. Check videocardbenchmark.net for more info.

it will play bf3 on hi in single player but medium in multiplayer 45fps. you will want a minimum of 60fps to be competitive though. i like many others have a gfx card that will play it on high but on multiplayer i turn everything other than mesh quality and textures on low. mesh i run at medium as that increases the draw distance and textures on high so it still looks good.
i turn blur off as it doesnt help with image quality instead it makes low fps look smoother. but as you will be playing at 60 minimum you wont need it.
so yeah the 560ti will play it at medium but like i say you will get much better overall gameplay playing at low.
its only when you get up to the 670 and 680 will you be able to play the game on higher settings and still get 60 fps on every map but you still wont be able to get ultra. the 680 still drops below 60 on the back to karkand maps. the 670 will give about 55fps minimum at ultra so 60 should be manageable at high.

oh my god so many people talking bullshit.. 30 fps on medium complete BS I run a single 560ti referance version 16 gb of ram and a i7 3820 @3.8ghz and i get over 80 fps on medium and i never drop under 70 on high.. at ultra i get 55-60 .. people these days..

A GTX560Ti will run at 1920x1080 just fine on medium settings and get sustained 60FPS, just make sure VSync is on. The AUTO setting is pretty good in BF3 so just choose that if you don't want to monkey with all the different settings. However, if you can get a GTX670 I would HIGHLY suggest that. You will be able to run on Ultra at 60FPS and would be much happier.

Something to also consider. The GTX660Ti should be coming out in August sometime and the rumored price is $299. With this on the horizon I would find it hard to go for a 500 series card with the new stuff right around the corner. The 670 is already here so if that is an option I would recommend it. The 600 series is about a 30% performance increase from its former 500 series counterpart.

Bit inappropriate for these forums don't you think?

Im sorry but as an owner of EVGA GTX 670 FTW and a previous owner of both a 580 and 570, Im gunna have to call you out for 'BS' - no way in hell will a 560ti run BF3 at 1920x1080 on Ultra and get average 60fps, unless you only play 12 player metro and spend most of your time in a small locker room.

A 580 will get around 45-65 at Ultra, and 670 will get 55-75.

I have the 560TI with an i5 750, runs superbly with BF3..Im running on high at 1920x1200 and getting 50+ FPS...The card is seriously underrated, one of a handful of cards that I noticed rarely drops in price (I bought mine early last year at $230 CDN, still the same price at the store I bought it from)

I second this ^^ I have a GTX 550 Ti Superclocked by EVGA that runs bf3 at right around 35-45 fps respectively between high and ultra (no msaa). So I would imagine a GTX 560 Ti would definitely be fine.

^^^ I third. My previous card was a GTX580 with a slight OC and I could only run on HIGH with sustained 60FPS. My GTX680 OCed will run Ultra @ 60FPS.

Who wants to run at anything under 60FPS anyway? Turn on VSync and embrace the smooth screen.
