Will 60FPS on 144Hz monitor look bad?

I'm upgrading from a 60Hz monitor to a 144Hz panel. I understand that refresh rate is the number of times a monitor outputs a new frame, and if the FPS exceeds the refresh rate, it may cause screen tearing.

So, running at 60FPS on a 120Hz panel means that a new frame is updated every 2 refreshes and everything will look okay. On a 144Hz panel however, running a game at 60FPS means a frame is updated every 2.4 refreshes? How is that gonna look on the screen?

I also know this is why G-Sync exists, so that the GPU can tell the monitor when to refresh, therefore having a variable refresh rate, but will it look bad without G-Sync?

Solution
It won't be very noticeable, you will have been used to this your entire gaming life I'm sure. No setup will give you a consistent 60FPS on any game, it is always going to go higher or lower so 60FPS on a 144Hz will just be like having for example 50FPS on a 60Hz monitor. It looks fine, you just get some minor tearing sometimes. Some people don't even notice it, I very rarely do.

For your query, here i'll quote "legend001523" :

people would say that at 60 fps exact, the difference between a 60hx and 144hz monitor is hard to differentiate, but above 60 fps, and then there will be visible differences between 2 monitors so if you know your pc can only hit 60 fps max, then a 60hz monitor would be fine, but if you know that your pc can hit above 60fps, then a 144hz monitor would be the way to go

Solution
I upgraded to 144hz a few days ago and after a few hours I limited my fps to 60 and wow, it looks like 30 used to to me, that's just because I quickly got used to 144 fps. OP, 60 fps on a 144hz monitor will look the same as on a 60hz monitor, but when you can get the extra fps, it's worth it.

I will be playing games like CS:GO and DOTA 2 at 144Hz, which are easier to run, and other graphically intensive titles at 60Fps.

Just play them all at 144Hz, as I said you're never going to get an exact number of frames consistently. Regardless of your refresh rate, you WILL get tearing on any game and any setup unless you have Freesync or G-Sync. The other exception would be if you enable V-Sync and your framerate is higher than your refresh rate, you will get input lag instead of tearing.
