Hello. I was wondering if this Chieftec Nitro Series BPS-950C 950W PSU will be able to handle R9 290X crossfire? I've been reading abit, and I think it is made with same platform as Corsair TX. I got a i7 4770k, and I will probably buy a second R9 290X in the future. Will it be okay, or do I need a new PSU?

Solution
I wouldn't trust even a good 750w for dual 290x's. They are power hungry beasts, so I'd recommend at least an 850w and more likely a 1000w just to be safe. I'm showing dual 290x's, plus a 4770k and normal case components to be at 799w for draw power. So if you plan on overclocking the 4770k, get at least a 1000w since I don't know of many Psu's worth anything in the 900w-1000w range.

:edit: Ok, there is an Antec: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/antec-power-supply-hcg900 and a PC Power and Cooling in that range I'd trust: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/pc-power--cooling-power-supply-ppcmk2s950 But considering that a Seasonic 1050w is the same price range, that's what I'd buy: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-x1050

The 290x draws a lot more power. With what I'm looking up, you are right, the 3770k and 680 would be under 400w. HDD's and and watercooling don't draw a lot of power honestly. 4 fans and a pump or so for watercooling? Meh. Crank up the 4770k, and start gaming and I bet the dual 290x's kill 90% of 750w Psu's, even ones from XFX, Seasonic, OCZ, etc.

But I got this Chieftec Nitro Series BPS-950C 950W PSU. Do you think it will get "killed" by R9 290X crossfire?
