Will a 144Hz monitor handicap performance?

Hello, i just recently got a BenQ XL2411Z 144Hz 1ms monitor and so far it is very smooth as expected but during some parts in game (Chivalry: Medieval Warfare) it seems like the game is stuttering. It has never done this before on my old monitor since i have an i5 4670k and r9 280x I can run the game at an average of 120fps. Even during these sections when it stutters I turn on the in-game fps counter and I am still at 50-60 fps which shouldnt stutter and should still seem smooth? Is it more demanding to run a 144hz 1ms monitor that would cause this stuttering?

Solution
turn v sync on an drop down to 120 hz you'll be fine your not pushng 144fps continuously to keep it from stutterng or dropp down some of your settings in game to keep fps up. turning off vsync causes tearing which i'm sure you've seen hope that helps

Is there a solution other than Vsync since I have a 144Hz monitor I wouldn't want my fps capped at 60.
