Will a 5870 (PCIe 2.0 x16) work on an Nvidia nForce 680i board?

I'm curious, if I can buy a 5870 PCIe 2.0 x16 card, before upgrading my MB, Processor and RAM. Will a PCIe 2.0 x16 card work in a PCIe 1.0 x16 slot? (not sure about the x16 on the nForce 690i)

nForce 680i maybe. I'm at work, I might be mis-typing. I'm just curious if I buy a 5870, if it will work in my PCIe 1.0 x16 slot.

@ Marcushodgkins: It will work and will suffer a very tiny drop in performance because the PCI-E version is 1.0 rather than 2.0.
The other points are: Does your PSU have the power and connections to run the card and is your case big enough?

I have an 8800 GTS right now, and I'd rather buy my new i7 920, Asrock LGA 1366 and Corsair Dominator right now, but that's not an option due to my driving way too fast and racking up three tickets (lawyer's fees are nuts) to get dismissed.

So instead, I decided to buy the video card first, and the rest next month. I'd like to have good frame-rates on Dragon Age Origins when it's released.

I have a Gigabyte Box, with a 680w Power Supply. It's pretty hot, so I'm wondering how long it will be before I buy a Cooler Master HAF 932.

Oh, and I think it does. (have the power connections) Are the power connections different now? I think it has plenty left for the extra card.
