Will a 6870 run Skyrim on ultra at 30 fps or more?

All other requirements are met such as RAM and CPU etc etc.

Can the 6870 do it?

With a fast quad-core CPU, definitely.

Might have to turn off adaptive AA tho, and just go with MSAA.

Currently use a Q9550 with a sapphire 6870 - Pegged at 60 all the time. I don't think this game goes any higher.

There is off spots only where it goes down, only for seconds.. in the 40 ish range., ie: Leave a Cave and rush into the main world.

fortunately you're so lucky cause the games is a CPU whore, no matter what GPU you have you still need to have a monster CPU to get a constant of 60FPS, and you do have the 2500K, but you might wanna OC it a little bit.

Really, you shouldn't use AMSAA in this game because it causes a lot of texture issues with various pop-ins as well as textures/characters becoming clear. 8xMSAA with FXAA works great, and at least for me I've gone with 4xSSAA+FXAA which is ultimate IMO.

skyrim caps at 60, but you can remove it by adding the line “iPresentinterval=0” to the Skyrim.ini file.

since the last patch my fps has gone up a lot, i think they optimised it for the core 2 processors.
