Will a change of CPU help Crossfire?

Hi all,

I've been running my crossfire setup for a while now, I have 2 MSI Radeon 6970 Lightning cards, the only problems i've been getting is on certain games the heat really ramps up and I get lock ups.

I've been reading here and there that AMD CPUs struggle a bit with Crossfire / SLI.

Is this the case? I'm soon upgrading to a i5 4670K and Asus Maximus Hero mB just wondering as theres more spacing for the cards on this MB and it's an intel if it will deal with the crossfire better.

It is the amd graphics cards that have crossfire problems, not the amd cpu.
The problems are related to stuttering and lags, not heat. It is a driver issue that amd has been working on for some time.

The lightning cards have aggressive fan type coolers. If the X16 slots are close to each other, then the top card gets starved for cooling air. The Maximus has added separation, so you should be better there.

The fan type coolers do well in a open air bench test, but in a case, they put added stress on case cooling. A dual slot direct exhaust type cooler is better for dual cards.

In the mean time, take your case covers off and direct a house fan at the innards to see if it fixes your heat problem.
