Hello, I recently noticed that my Pentium D 925 is bottlenecking my ASUS GT 640. So I wanted to upgrade to a Core 2 Duo e4700.

My PC is:

Pentium D 925
ASUS GT 640 1GB GDDR5
MSi 0a48
2GB DDR2 667MHz RAM

I think based on the specifications of both my motherboard and the processor the Core 2 Duo could fit and work on my current motherboard, but I have some doubts because the Core 2 Duo family is not a Prescott as the Pentium 4/D series. But would it work or not? Also please don't say to buy a new PC and stuff.

Looks like you've already got the fastest processor you can get in that board.

If you don't want to buy a new PC/do a major overhaul, you should be able to find a second-hand motherboard and CPU that will be suitable. You could probably even get both new, but the prices won't be much cheaper than more up to date hardware.
Technically any socket 775 cpu will fit, but the motherboards chipset only supports certain cpus. The board is an oem hp board and they dont have a list of supported cpus just says p4 and celeron d. Honestly the boards so old I wouldn't suggest spending any money trying to upgrade it, save your money till you can get something better.
