Will a Corsair CX450 replace an Alienware x51 PSU?

Ok, so I know the wattage is fine, I just want to know if the rest is compatible with the x51's components. Also, will the CX450 have long enough cables? It would seem odd to me that it wouldn't, but I want to cover all my bases.

The CX450 doesn't have a good track record, and 450 watts is only enough to support low-end parts. I would suggest Seasonic m12ii 520 Watt instead.

Ditto, if you want to save some cash the new CXM 450w should be good for you as well, although I do suggest going for the M12II due to the fully modular design and the fact that it is much easier to work with, especially in an enclosure like an Alienware.

I think the motherboard and PSU in those are proprietary , can't be upgraded.

Make sure of this so you don't waste money , some of these DELL's are proprietary the PSU , boards , and power pinouts.

I would post in the DELL Alienware forum to get a clear answer.

Agreed, didn't come to my mind that they had an Alienware forum.
Most Alienware machines have a closed BIOS, but I'd presume a PSU would hotswap just fine, although I can't say i've done it myself...

Oh wow, okay then. I've heard of that being present on some laptops but that seems kind of unstable for a desktop PC!
No wonder they get a bad rap in addition to the insane cost.

Those type setups were made so they aren't really very upgradable , a shame for all the money spent.

Not supprised that they're not terribly compatible for upgrades. It's probably a money grab to be honest. But, at the time I knew next to nothing about pc hardware.

The power setup and the board are proprietary , made for each other , really not an option to move to another case.
