Will a corsair hx 550 be enough to power a 690?Or will I need an upgrade if that's the case then I will get an hx 850

It should be able to run it depending on what CPU and other components it has to power but you'd be cutting it close. Also you wouldn't be able to overclock the card or the CPU. What is the exact model you have? They don't make a HX series that's 550 watts. Please also list what you have and if it's at stock settings.

But with that you're easily within your PSU's limit. I'm talking about the HDD (7200 RPM?) and/or SSD, optical drive, SSD, even how many fans the case has and what size. Six high performance fans can be the extra 40-60 watts that sets the PSU over.

Now if you don't have many accessories you should be fine.

I have one seagate barracuda 500gb @7200 rpm and 3 low rpm 230 mm case fans one normal 140 mm and one 120 mm for the CPU and a touch screen fan controller from nzxt
last on the list is a generic cd reader writer

I suggest you buy a cooler master gx 750 watts or gx 650 watts (both are 80 plus bronze certified)
